Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
ACT and sQuid have joined forces to create Smart Transactions Group™
1 Why have ACT and sQuid joined forces?
Both businesses are involved in the management of transactions; ACT’s focus is on intelligent ticketing systems, and sQuid’s on next generation payments and eMoney. The complementary business models combine to create a uniquely exciting Group, which immediately becomes the leader in UK non-bank transaction systems. The businesses have worked together for several years, and many synergies have been identified which will create added value for the new group as part of our 1+1=3 strategy.
2 What plans does the Group have for the next 18 months?
We want to re-inforce the Group’s UK leadership in smart transactions, through continuing to implement the current plans of each business. We will also be launching a number of exciting new projects, including Pay-As-You-Go transit, mobile and international programmes.
3 Will the two companies be working more closely together?
Yes, we will build on the good working relationships that already exist in both commercial and technical areas, and many of the new programmes will be collaborations between the two operating businesses.
4 How will this affect employees, customers, suppliers and shareholders and investors?
For employees
Fundamentally, no change, except that everyone is now part of a bigger, more successful and more ambitious group. The businesses will continue to operate separately from existing locations. We will encourage increased collaboration between sQuid and ACT teams.
For customers
Both ACT and sQuid have created great reputations for customer service. There will be no change to delivery commitments or terms of business for any customer. We do, however, expect to be able to offer additional value-adding services to our customers, which will demonstrate the benefits of joining forces.
For suppliers and partners
We would expect our accelerated growth plans to be good news for our supplier and partner community.
For shareholders and investors
The new Group is already greater than the sum of the parts. For the future, we now have the scale and resources to offer new, extended and complementary services, as well as accelerating our growth in target markets.
5 Will there be any job losses or changes in location?
No. The new Group is based around growth, not cost saving. In fact we expect to be hiring many more talented individuals to support our growth plans.
6 What are the highlights and key messages?
Smart Transactions Group delivers millions of transactions each day, and has the reach, scale and resources to lead in all its chosen markets – payments, ticketing and rewards. The Group brings a retail network capability to ACT, and transit scale to sQuid’s education and retail business.
7 Will we be changing our brand?
No, the two operating company brands will remain. sQuid is our consumer brand and ACT our B2B brand. In addition we have created a corporate brand identity for the Group to help with our communications with shareholders, potential investors and for joint opportunities, where it will be used as an umbrella brand for the group's activities.
